Getting good mileage out of my clothes is one factor I always consider when buying them. That's why I always go for quality, function, and classic styles that transcend time and trends. I prefer clothes that I can wear day in and day out, dressed up or down, day to night, desk to drinks, that way I know that I am really getting my money's worth.

Buying clothes also means dropping a good bit of money so it's only appropriate that you'd want for them to last as long as possible.
Here are 10 things I do at home to give my wardrobe the love they deserve, and at the same time, make our clothes last longer.
1.) ROTATE YOUR CLOTHES. Contrary to popular belief (my husband's belief included), I do wear my clothes for more than 3 times. I just rotate them well enough for people to not notice that I've actually worn them before. I always make a mental note of when and where I wore it to, and the people who were there when I wore it, that way, I don't get photographed with the same people wearing the same item. Plus, it also gives my wardrobe a breathing spell, and my clothes an even wear.

2.) INVEST IN GOOD QUALITY HANGERS. Flimsy wire hangers do not give your clothes the support they need that's why we invested in slim velvet hangers for shirts and dresses (it prevents slips!), wooden hangers for pants and jeans, clip hangers for skirts, and plastic hangers with grooves for Vania and Isabel. It may be a little pricey to invest in these but if they are to keep our clothes from getting out of shape, and give our closets a uniformed look, I wouldn't mind dropping a few pesos if it lets us save in the long run.
3.) STEAM YOUR CLOTHES. I like steaming because it's a less aggressive approach compared to ironing when getting rid of creases, and the chances of you dealing is scorch marks is slim to none! But steaming is much easier if your clothes have less wrinkles, so make sure to use a fab con!
4.) FOLD YOUR KNITWEAR. Hanging causes them stretch out of shape over time. So I fold my knitwear and stack them up on the shelves when it's rainy season, and keep them in linen bins during summer. Also, I HATE shoulder bumps!
5.) WASH DENIMS INSIDE OUT. This prevents colors from fading too quickly.
6.) ZIP ALL ZIPPERS, ALWAYS BUTTON UP. This prevents ugly snags in the drum during the actual wash or during spin dry.
7.) USE A LAUNDRY BAG FOR YOUR DELICATES. And always use the HANDWASH or GENTLE CYCLE. This prevents your clothes from getting misshapen.
8.) SORT THEM PROPERLY. Separate heavy fabrics from light ones, heavily soiled items from the cleaner ones, and whites with whites, dark with dark, that way there will be no color rub off. A no-brainer, really. Wash your bed linens and towels on their own. ALWAYS.
9.) AIRDRY CLOTHES. WHITES, OUTSIDE, COLORS, IN THE SHADE. What's good about living in the tropics is having ample sunlight all year round but this isn't quite beneficial for our dark colored clothes. So make sure to dry your whites outdoors, the colored ones in the shade to prevent premature fading.
10.) PROTECT YOUR GARMENTS FROM FADING IN COLOR AFTER REPEATED WASHES VIA "Color Protection Technology". The overall washing process can damage your clothes at microscopic level-- the spinning and the heat causes the fibers of your clothes to break giving them a duller appearance over time. To address this issue, I use a fab con with Color Protection Technology that way I am reassured that no matter how many times I wash my clothes, they're protected from pilling and fading, making me save more in the long run!
I've had these clothes for years now, some are as old as 5 years old, others I've had since college (true swear!) and they're still pretty much in good shape up to this day. See the comparison below!
This PARKA is my favorite! I've had this since 2010 and I use it until now! The latest being the photoshoot I was part of for Sunstar Cebu's Cebu Yearbook Digital Influencer section!

Downy conditions and strengthens the fabric by coating it with its active components that prevents friction among fabric threads thus helping clothes retain elasticity and color, even after repeated washes. It's amazing how most of my clothes are still in very good condition, some even looked like they're still brand new which is awesome because taking them out for a spin after a couple of months of not wearing them feels like I'm wearing something new!
A personal favorite of mine is the Downy Sunrise Fresh, and no laundry experience is ever complete without it! Our clothes come out of the drum fresh and clean smelling, they dry faster, and have less wrinkles thus making it easier for us to iron them-- saving both time and electricity. Oh, and, not to mention that by using Downy, I get to save more in the long run because our clothes are always protected from fading and pilling!
